Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas tops League Table for Legal Advisors to M&A deals in Q1 2020

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Legal Advisor to M&A Transactions for the quarter ending March 2020. CAM advised M&A deals worth $16.1 Billion (across 26 qualifying deals), followed by Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) with $4 Billion (across 5 deals). AZB & Partners (with $3.1 Billion across 13 deals), Trilegal ($3.1 Billion across 9 deals) and Khaitan & Co. ($1.8 Billion across 15 deals) completed the top five.


The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Transaction and Legal Advisory firms.

Among the largest deals in this quarter, CAM advised Jaypee Infratech’s $3.1 Billion acquisition by NBCC through the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (IBC) process. CAM, SAM and Trilegal advised the $1.9 Billion acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port by Adani Group. CAM also assisted the merger of 4 public sector banks. S&R Associates advised France's Groupe ADP investing $1.5 Billion in GMR Airports. AZB, Argus Partners and CAM advised the $1.3 Billion investment in Yes Bank by a banking consortium as a part of the Reserve Bank of India’s rescue plan.
Among foreign firms, Kirkland & Ellis topped the table with $568 million. DLA Piper came in second with $203 million followed by Perkins Coie in third with $64 million.

CAM also topped the tables in terms of deal volume advising 26 deals. Khaitan took the second spot with 15 deals, followed by AZB with 13 deals. Trilegal (9 deals) and SAM (5 deals) took the fourth and fifth spots respectively.


By Industry

Among M&A transactions in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) CAM ($6.1 Billion) topped the table followed by AZB ($2 Billion) and Argus Partners ($1.3 Billion). DSK Legal and Khaitan came in fourth and fifth respectively.

CAM also topped in Infrastructure, advising deals worth $9.1 Billion. SAM came in second advising deals worth $3.2 Billion followed by Trilegal with $2.5 Billion. S&R Associates ($1.5 Billion) and AZB ($700 million) came in fourth and fifth respectively.

PE-VC investments in Q2'23 decline 33% to $9.9 Billion

Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) investments in India during the quarter ended June 2023 (Q2'23), at $9.85 Billion across 182 deals, registered a 33% decrease compared to the same period in 2022 (which saw $14.6 Billion being invested across 371 deals). The investment amount however rose 74% compared to the immediate previous quarter (which saw $5.7 Billion being invested across 181 deals), shows data from  Venture Intelligence , a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations. Aeka Advisors and Ambit claim the No.2 & 3 slot Avendus topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to Private Equity Transactions for Q1 2023 advising 5 deals worth $808 million. Aeka Advisors stood second having advised 3 deals worth $228 million. Ambit followed with 4 deals worth $160 million.
