PE-VC investments fall 38% in 2023 to below $30 B

The value of investments by Private Equity - Venture Capital (PE-VC) firms in India fell by 38% to less than $30 Billion in 2023. PE-VC firms invested $29.7 Billion (across 756 deals) in Indian companies in 2023, compared to $47.6 Billion (across 1,362 deals) in the previous year, reports Venture Intelligenc e, a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations. PE investments in H1'21 rise 33% to $27 Billion

Press Release Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) investments in India rose 33% during the first 6 months of 2021 to $27.1 Billion (across 442 deals) compared to $20.4 Billion (across 433 deals) during the same period last year, shows data from  Venture Intelligence , a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations. PE-VC investments during Q2'21, at $14.3 Billion across 215 deals, registered a 12% Q-o-Q increase (compared to the $12.8 Billion across 227 deals in Q1'21). The Q2'21 investment value also surpassed (by 2.4%) the Reliance Jio dominated Q2'20 (which saw $13.9 Billion being invested across 190 deals - of which, $9.8 Billion or 71% went into just Jio). Q2'21 witnessed 33 mega deals ($100M+ rounds) worth $11.5 Billion, compared to 12 such investments (topped by Jio) in the same period last year. Diligencing Investors - The Manish Sabharwal way

Manish Sabharwal, founder of education and staffing services firm Teamlease (who earlier founded and sold India Life) articulates in an article in Mint, how he went about choosing his latest set of PE/VC Investors. Sabharwal and Reddy decided to raise Rs. 100 crore to start with. But since both labour and education are highly regulated, Sabharwal was cautious about finding the right financier. “We wanted a domestic investor because they understand India. We didn’t want a tourist investor from the US who would give us a high valuation but freak out every time an article appeared in the newspaper,” he says. Sabharwal spoke to 5-10 investors. “I did my due diligence, about the personalities in the investing firm, talked to people at their investee companies, and other companies that they had dealings with. PE investments vault to $3.3-B in Q1’ 11

Amount invested more than doubles over previous quarter; Median Deal Size jumps to $14.5-M Private Equity firms invested about $3,296 million across 83 deals in India during the quarter ended March 2011, according to a study by Venture Intelligence ( http://www.ventureintelligence.in ), a research service focused on Private Equity and M&A transaction activity in the country. The amount invested during the quarter was higher than that during the same period last year (which witnessed $2,133 million invested across 81 deals) and over twice that of the immediate previous quarter ($1,515 million across 83 deals). The median size of investments during Q1 ’11 was $14.5 million, compared to $11.5 million in the same period a year ago. (Note: These numbers do not include PE investments in Real Estate.)
