Reframing Education Change in India: Stanford Social Innovation Review

A Stanford Social Innovation Review article quotes Venture Intelligence data on investments in education: Corporate social responsibility funding in India has been significant, with 36 percent ($419 million)  going into education  in 2016. Impact investing, however, is yet to be tapped with only around $45 million on average per annum between 2014-2017 according to an analysis of education deals in the  Venture Intelligence database . Michael And Susan Dell Foundation allocates $50 Mn to fund Indian startups: Inc42

In a boost to social entrepreneurship in India the Michael And Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) has further allocated $50 million for India startups according to an  Inc42 article , which features Venture Intelligence data from our Social VC/Impact Investing Report : "According to experts, impact investing in India has remained largely stagnant in terms of deal activity, over the last two years. As per the data by Venture Intelligence , 2015 and 2014 saw transactions worth $104 Mn spread over 57 deals and $106 Mn across 49 transactions, respectively. The Bubble in Social Venture / Impact Investing

Economic Times has raised the "danger" flag on the bubble building up in the sector in a full page feature . "The hype around impact investing far outweighs reality," warns Vineet Rai, founder and chairman of Intellecap, with over a decade's experience in funding and handholding social entrepreneurs through the Aavishkaar funds. "The expectations being raised are just beyond the capability of the system to deliver." ... The noise around impact investing reached a crescendo in November 2010, when JP Morgan categorised it as a distinct asset class and estimated an investment opportunity between $400 billion and $1 trillion (about Rs 20,00,000 crore to Rs 50,00,000 crore)over the next decade.
