AIFs in India are governed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Alternative Investment Regulations), 2012 (“AIF Regulations”) and regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (“SEBI”). AIF Regulations are based on the premise that AIFs are a high-risk asset class, in which only sophisticated and well-informed investors participate.
