Facebook-Jio deal propels Morgan Stanley to top spot in League Table for Transaction Advisors to M&A deals in H1'20
Morgan Stanley topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to M&A Deals for the half-year ending June 2020. Morgan Stanley advised the USD 5.7 Billion strategic investment by Facebook into Reliance Industries' telecom arm Jio platforms (among other Private Equity investments in the company). Deloitte (USD 1 Billion across 2 deals) and KPMG (USD 918 million across 2 deals) took the second and third spots respectively. EY (USD 845 million across 5 deals) and Arpwood Capital (which advised Nirma Group's USD 770 million take over of Emami Cement) completed the top five.
The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on the value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Financial and Legal Advisory firms.
Among other larger deals in the second quarter of 2020, Avendus and Moelis & Company acted as financial advisors to KKR’s majority stake acquisition in JB Chemicals. JP Morgan, along with Nomura, advised Carlyle’s USD 210 million takeover of animal healthcare company SeQuent Scientific.

EY topped the League Table for M&A advisors by Deal Volume advising 5 deals. It was followed by Transaction Square with 4 deals. JM Financial, Singhi Advisors and Candle Partners shared the third place with 3 deals each.

With $5.7 Billion, Morgan Stanley also topped the tables inclusive of roles in due diligence and related advisory activities, followed by RBSA Advisors with $5.3 Billion (across 10 deals). The third place went to Deloitte with $2.2 Billion across 11 deals. EY ($1.3 Billion across 6 deals) and Transaction Square ($1.1 Billion across 8 deals) came in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Deloitte topped the table by deal volume advising 11 deals. RBSA Advisors came in second place with 10 deals followed by BDO India with 9 deals. Transaction Square (8 deals) and EY (6 deals) took the fourth and fifth spot respectively.
