AZB & Partners topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Legal Advisors to Private Equity Transactions in Jan - Sep 2019 advising deals worth $13 Billion (across 71 qualifying deals). Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) ($8.3 Billion across 49 deals) and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) ($7.1 Billion across 47 deals) took the second and third spot respectively. Khaitan & Co. ($4.1 Billion across 54 deals) and Trilegal ($3.5 Billion across 26 deals) completed the top five.
The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Transaction and Legal Advisory firms.
AZB and CAM advised Brookfield's $3.7 Billion acquisition of Reliance Tower Infrastructure Trust. AZB and SAM advised Brookfield's $1.9 Billion buyout of Pipeline Infrastructure from Reliance Industries. AZB and CAM advised Carlyle's $678 million investment in SBI Life Insurance. CAM, SAM and Trilegal advised SSG Capital’s investment in GMR Airports Holdings.
Among the largest deals in the latest quarter, AZB advised Udaan’s $586 million led by Tencent and Altimeter Capital. CAM advised Blackstone’s acquisition of Coffee Day’s Global Village Tech Park. SAM advised Baring Asia’s acquisition of Citius Tech. AZB and Khaitan & Co. advised SoftBank’s $250 million investment in Ola Electric Mobility.
Among foreign firms, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett came on top advising 3 deals worth $825 million. Ropes & Gray came in second advising 3 deals worth $574 million. Clifford Chance came in third advising 2 deals worth $507 million.

AZB also topped the tables in terms of deal volume advising 71 deals, followed by new entrant Burgeon Law with 62 deals. Khaitan & Co. came in third place with 54 deals. CAM (49 deals) and SAM (47 deals) took the fourth and fifth place respectively.
Among foreign firms, Goodwin Procter topped the table in terms of deal volume advising 8 deals during the period followed by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Ropes & Gray and Gunderson Dettmer in second place advising 3 deals each.
