AZB tops League Table for Legal Advisors to PE deals in H1’24


Trilegal and Khaitan & Co. claim the No.2 & No.3 slots


AZB & Partners (AZB) topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Legal Advisor to Private Equity Transactions in H1 2024 advising 41 deals worth $5.4 Billion. It was followed by Trilegal ($5.1 Billion across 54 deals) and Khaitan & Co.(4.8 Billion across 46 deals) in the second and third spot respectively. Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) ($2.9 Billion across 34 deals) and Talwar Thakore & Associates ($2.4 Billion across 9 deals) completed the top five.



Among the larger Private Equity deals during H1’2024, Khaitan & Co., Talwar Thakore & Associates, S&R Associates,and Trilegal advised the $2 Billion acquisition of the Indian business of American Tower Corporation by Brookfield which was the largest PE-VC investment in 2024. AZB advised the $900 Million acquisition of Altimetrik by TPG Capital and the $840 Million acquisition of Healthium Medtech by KKR. Resolut Partners, Khaitan & Co., and Gunderson Dettmer advised the $665 Million funding of  Zepto by Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed Ventures and others.

The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on the value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Financial and Legal Advisory firms.



Among foreign firms, Gunderson Dettmer came on top having advised 2 deals worth $714 Million. Sidley Austin followed next having advised 2 deals worth $275 Million. They were followed by Latham & Watkins with  1 deal worth $173 Million.

By Deal Volume

India Juris topped the tables with 106 deals. Followed by  Peritum Partners  with 78 deals. Burgeon Law took the third spot advising 66 deals. Goyel & Goyal (63 deals) and Indus law (57 deals) completed top five.

Among foreign firms, Sidley Austin, Goodwin Procter and Gunderson Dettmer topped the table with 2 deals each. They were followed by Latham & Watkins, Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Kirkland & Ellis and Ropes & Gray with 1 deal each.



By Industry

Among PE transactions in the IT & ITeS industry (by value) topped the table this year, with  AZB & Partners ($2.1 Billion) taking the top spot followed by Khaitan & Co.  ($1.2 Billion). SAM ($756 Million) took the third spot. By deal volume within tech industry deals, IndiaJuris (70 deals) topped the table followed by Burgeon Law and Goyel & Goyal took the second spot advising 39 deals each. IndusLaw took the third spot with 35 deals.
    
CAM topped the BFSI industry deals by value having advised deals worth $1.2 Billion. Trilegal took the second spot advising deals worth $1 Billion. They were followed by AZB & Partners which advised BFSI deals worth $658 Million and Anagram Partners which advised deals worth $636 Million. By deal volume within BFSI, Trilegal topped the table (13 deals), followed by Khaitan & Co. (12 deals) and AZB (9 deals).

Under the Healthcare & Life Sciences industry, AZB & Partners topped the table in terms of value by advising deals worth $1.4 Billion followed by CAM advising  deals worth $297 Million. SAM took the third spot by advising deals worth $290 Million. By deal volume Trilegal, India Juris,and IndusLaw (5 deals) took the top spot, followed by Goyel & Goyal, Peritum Partners,Khaitan & Co. and Jerome Merchant + Partners (4 deals) and AZB, LexStart Partners and SAM (3 deals) completed the top three.

Under the Real Estate sector, Trilegal and DSK legal topped the table advising deals worth $403 Million each followed by SAM which advised deals worth $328 Million. Ashurst & Wadia Ghandy took the third spot by advising deal worth  $265 Million. By deal volume, Trilegal (3 deals ) took the top spot followed by SAM, DSK Legal and Khaitan & Co. (2 deals each).

Avendus tops League Table for Transaction Advisors to PE deals in H1'24

Citi and Ambit claim the No.2&3 slots Avendus topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to Private Equity Transactions in H1’2024 advising 12 deals worth $2.4 Billion. Citi stood second, having advised 1 deal worth $2 Billion. Ambit followed with 7 deals worth $797 million. Kotak Mahindra Capital ($735 million across 2 deals) and Ernst & Young ($657 million across 7 deals) completed the top five for H1’ 2024. Khaitan & Co. and J Sagar Associates claim the No.2 & No.3 slots AZB & Partners topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Legal Advisor to M&A Transactions during H1 2024 advising 37 deals worth $14.8 Billion.
