ALMT Legal, IndusLaw complete the Top 3 Most Active Advisors List
AZB & Partners has retained its status as the Most Active Legal Advisor for Private Equity transactions during the first six months of 2014. According to the Venture Intelligence League Tables, AZB advised 22 qualifying deals (earning 88 points) during H1 2014, followed by ALMT Legal which advised 17 deals (68 points); IndusLaw which advised 15 deals (60 points) and K Law with 12 deals (48 points).
The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on volume of PE and M&A transactions (combined with credits based on fulfilment of criteria) advised by Transaction and Legal Advisory firms.
AZB advised deals during H1 2014 included Warburg Pincus' $150 million investment in Laurus Labs and Temasek’s investment in the $100-M round raised by Snapdeal in May-14. Transactions advised by ALMT Legal included Samara Capital’s $37-M investment in Paradise Food Court and Ascent Capital’s INR 140 Cr investment in veterinary drugs firm Alivira Animal Health; IndusLaw advised Myntra in raising $50-M from investors including PremjiInvest, Sofina and existing PE investors as well as SAIF Partners in its $25-M investment (along with Accel Partners and Capital18) in online ticketing firm Bookmyshow. K Law advised the existing investors in Snapdeal for the firm’s $134-M round in Feb-14 and Kalaari Capital as part of the firm’s $10-M investment (along with Accel Partners and Saama Capital) in jewellery e-tailer BlueStone.com.
AZB & Partners also topped the tables in terms of deals advised by value, including the $372-M and $323-M investments by CPPIB in Kotak Mahindra Bank and L&T-IDPL respectively. Trilegal (which advised Global Beverages & Foods in raising $50-M from Goldman Sachs and Mitsui as well as BlackRock and Myriad Asset Management in their investment in Snapdeal in May-14) came in second in deal value terms, while Luthra & Luthra finished third.
The H1-2014 period witnessed new entrants like S Eshwar Consultants and LexCounsel enter the Venture Intelligence Most Active Legal Advisors for Private Equity league table.
