Avendus tops League Table for Transaction Advisors to Private Equity deals in 2023


Allegro Advisors and Ernst & Young claim the No.2&3 slot

Avendus topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to Private Equity Transactions in 2023 advising 22 deals worth $2.9 Billion. Allegro Advisors stood second advising 4 deals worth $2.5 Billion. Ernst & Young followed with 20 deals worth $1.4 Billion. Jefferies & Co. ($1.1 Billion across 1 deal) and o3 Capital ($970 million across 9 deals) completed the top five for 2023.

Allegro Advisors and Ernst & Young advised $2 Billion investment in Manipal Hospitals by Temasek, the largest PE-VC investment of 2023. Jefferies & Co., Ernst & Young, Arpwood Capital advised the $1.1 Billion buyout of HDFC Credila by BPEA EQT and ChrysCapital. Avendus advised the $500 million investment attracted by Lenskart from ADIA.






Among the larger private equity deals in Q4 2023, O3 Capital and KPMG advised the $700 million acquisition of Care Hospitals by Blackstone. Ambit advised the merger of Fincare and AU Small Finance Bank. Avendus advised Warburg Pincus exit from CAMS.

The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on the value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Financial and Legal Advisory firms.

By Deal Volume

Avendus topped the tables in terms of deal volume advising 22 deals during 2023. This was followed by Ernst & Young with 20 deals. Unitus Capital took the third spot with 17 deals. Veda Corporate Advisors and DPNC Advisors took the fourth spot with 15 deals each. Upwisery and Dexter Capital took the fifth spot with 12 deals each.



By Industry (Excluding Due Diligence, Tax, Other Advisory Services)

Among PE transactions in the Healthcare & Life Sciences industry (by value), Allegro Advisors ($2.46 Billion) stood first followed by o3 Capital ($940 million). Avendus ($265 million) and Veda Corporate Advisors ($260 million) took the third and fourth spots, respectively. PwC ($259 million) completed the top five. By deal volume, Veda Corporate Advisors and o3 Capital (6 deals each) topped the table, followed by Allegro Advisors (4 deals). PwC and Ernst & Young took the third spot advising 3 deals each. 

Under the IT & ITes industry (by value), Avendus ($1.83 Billion) stood first, followed by JP Morgan ($500 million). Aeka Advisors ($217 million) took the third spot. By deal volume, Avendus (11 deals) topped the table, followed by Dexter Capital (8 deals). Unitus Capital took the third spot with 7 deals.

Under the BFSI industry (by value), Jefferies & Co. ($1.1 Billion) stood first, followed by Avendus ($606 million). Ambit ($530 million) took the third spot. By deal volume, Avendus (7 deals), Unitus Capital (6 deals) and ICICI Securities (4 deals) took the top three spots.

Including Other Advisory Services

Inclusive of its roles in due diligence and related advisory activitiesPwC topped the table, advising 188 deals worth $22.1 Billion followed by Ernst & Young with 144 deals worth $18.1 Billion. Deloitte took the third spot advising 89 deals worth $8.5 Billion. KPMG stood fourth advising 43 deals worth $5.3 Billion. Avendus completed the top 5 with 22 deals worth $2.9 Billion.


PwC topped the table by volume with 188 deals. Ernst & Young took the second spot with 144 deals. The third spot went to Deloitte with 89 deals. AVA Insights (79 deals) took the fourth spot and KPMG (79 deals) completed the top five.

PE-VC investments fall 38% in 2023 to below $30 B

The value of investments by Private Equity - Venture Capital (PE-VC) firms in India fell by 38% to less than $30 Billion in 2023. PE-VC firms invested $29.7 Billion (across 756 deals) in Indian companies in 2023, compared to $47.6 Billion (across 1,362 deals) in the previous year, reports Venture Intelligenc e, a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations.
