Google-Jio deal helps Morgan Stanley retain top spot in League Table for Transaction Advisors to M&A deals in Jan - Sep 2020
Morgan Stanley topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to M&A Deals for the nine months ending September 2020. Morgan Stanley advised the $10.1 billion strategic investment by Facebook and Google into Reliance Industries' telecom arm Jio platforms (among other Private Equity investments in the company). JM Financial ($3.6 billion across 4 deals) and Metta Capital ($3.41 billion across 3 deals) took the second and third spots respectively. Citi and ICICI Securities ($3.37 billion) took the fourth spot and SBI Caps ($1.5 billion across 1 deal) completed the top five.
The Venture Intelligence League Tables, the first such initiative exclusively tracking transactions involving India-based companies, are based on the value of PE and M&A transactions advised by Financial and Legal Advisory firms.
Metta Capital, JM Financial, Citi, ICICI Securities, BDO India, Ernst & Young, Deloitte and PwC advised Reliance group acquisition of Future Group's retail business for $3.4 billion. DC Advisory advised Byju's $300 million acquisition of kids coding platform WhiteHat Jr.

Ernst & Young topped the table in terms of deal volume with 5 deals followed by Deloitte, JM Financial and YES Securities in the second (advising 4 deals each). Arpwood Capital, Avendus, Candle Partners, Metta Capital, Nomura, Singhi Advisors and Transaction Square took the third spot with 3 deals each.

Inclusive of its roles in due diligence and related advisory activities, Deloitte took the second place having advised deals worth $6.2 billion across 19 deals. RBSA Advisors stood third with deals worth $5.6 billion across 11 deals. This was followed by Ernst & Young (9 deals worth $4.6 billion) and ICICI Securities (2 deals worth $3.8 billion) in fourth and fifth place respectively.
By deal volume, Deloitte stood first with 19 deals. The second spot was held by BDO India and Transaction Square advising 14 deals each. RBSA Advisors came third having advised 11 deals. Ernst & Young (9 deals) and PwC (5 deals) completed the top five.
