AZB & Partners tops League Table for Legal Advisors to M&A deals for H1'22

CAM and SAM claim the No.2 & No.3 slots

AZB & Partners (AZB) topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Legal Advisor to M&A Transactions by value and volume for H1 2022. AZB advised 49 M&A deals worth $24.46 Billion. They were followed by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) ($22.42 Billion across 43 deals) and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) ($5.8 Billion across 16 deals) in the second and third spots respectively. Khaitan & Co. ($5 Billion across 40 deals) took the fourth spot with Trilegal ($3.6 Billion across 31 deals) completing the top five.






Among the larger M&A deals during H1 2022, AZB and CAM advised Adani Group's  $10.5 Billion acquisition of  Switzerland-based Holcim’s entire stake in the latter’s two Indian cement companies (Ambuja Cements Ltd and ACC Ltd). The duo also advised the $2 Billion funding received by three Adani Group firms from Abu Dhabi-based IHC. AZB, CAM and J Sagar Associates advised the $1.76 Billion acquisition of Viacom 18 Media by Bodhi Tree Systems.






Among foreign firms, Baker McKenzie and Goodwin Procter came on top having advised 1 deal worth $3.3 Billion. They were followed by Clifford Chance and Linklaters with 1 deal worth $1.6 Billion.

CAM took the second spot with 43 deals, followed by Khaitan & Co. with 40 deals. Trilegal (31 deals) and IndusLaw (19 deals) took the fourth and fifth spots respectively.






By Industry

AZB topped the table for Manufacturing industry M&A deals, advising 9 deals worth $12.7 Billion, followed by CAM (7 deals worth $11.1 Billion) and Khaitan & Co. (10 deals worth $844 million).

Under IT & ITeS industry deals, IndusLaw ($1.4 Billion) topped the table, followed by AZB with deals worth $1.32 Billion. SAM ($474 million). AZB topped the I & ITeS table in terms of deal volume with 13 deals. They were followed by Trilegal, Samvad Partners and IndusLaw who advsied 6 deals each. CAM took the third spot in tech deals (by volume) advising 8 deals.

Under the Infrastructure sector, AZB topped the table with deals worth $3.5 Billion across 7 deals. It was followed by CAM. (13 deals worth $3.4 Billion) and Trilegal (10 deals worth $1.9 Billion) in the second and third spots, respectively. SAM took the fourth spot with 3 deals worth $1.6 Billion.

PE-VC investments in Q2'23 decline 33% to $9.9 Billion

Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) investments in India during the quarter ended June 2023 (Q2'23), at $9.85 Billion across 182 deals, registered a 33% decrease compared to the same period in 2022 (which saw $14.6 Billion being invested across 371 deals). The investment amount however rose 74% compared to the immediate previous quarter (which saw $5.7 Billion being invested across 181 deals), shows data from  Venture Intelligence , a research service focused on private company financials, transactions, and their valuations. Aeka Advisors and Ambit claim the No.2 & 3 slot Avendus topped the Venture Intelligence League Table for Transaction Advisor to Private Equity Transactions for Q1 2023 advising 5 deals worth $808 million. Aeka Advisors stood second having advised 3 deals worth $228 million. Ambit followed with 4 deals worth $160 million.
